Attending the annual real estate Durban Conference in1999, Peter Gilchrist, owner of Real Training International, New Zealand introduced Real Estate Auctioneering as a strategy to increase real estate cashflow in South Africa.

The “Re-Am Auctioneers - best possible price in the shortest possible time” received “Trademark” approval in 2004.

In 2004 Trading International invited Pieter to their annual 4day management Seminar on Hamilton Island, attended by more than 90 real estate professionals. The most important information he received there was that Thursdays 12 noon is the best time to have an auction deadline. After the Seminar he attended various auctions in Sydney and Christchurch. There he observed that every property can go on auction because the auction method of sale is merely a marketing strategy used to get the best price for the owner in the shortest time.

The biggest lesson Re-Am taught him was to never give up. Initially sellers believed that when their home goes on auction people believe they are in financial trouble. His first auction was a nightmare. Three buyers arrived, unbeknown, they from the neighbourhood, just having a look. Once auctioning two above the reserve, it became easier. Small holdings became his speciality.

Becoming an auctioneer was actually a natural progression from selling real estate. By nature he is a competitive person. He trains hard and works hard and he brough abundant energy to every auction he called. He loves property and he loves people. He was passionate to become a great auctioneer because the difference between a great auctioneer and a good auctioneer can literally mean the difference between a good price and a premium price.

Pieter was a Rotarian for more than 30 years and became the Charter President of Gordon’s Bay in1997. He is a Paul Haris Sapphire Member, one of the highest Rotary International awards for service to the community.
